This made me smile - looks like Konstanz but I didn't see this particular crossing ;)

And the staff meeting was fun.

Oh, and I had an observation that went quite well too!

Happy birthday to John. A trip to the German Market in Birmingham for Bratwurst und Pommes, Heisse Marroni und Glühwein this evening (including an interlude in the Library of Birmingham for John to thaw out).
Made me miss Winti though. The Christmas market there takes over the whole town.

Smiles 124:365

John made me smile whilst we were making dinner by arranging the vegetables to make traffic lights! And then Jude starting giving advice on improving the arrangement and told me to look at it from above. So I did. What do you think?

Jude came back from a shopping trip full of stories of how he threw a tennis ball at a target and had a marshmallow teacake catapulted at him 'very quickly because my ball hit so hard!'
Isaac made me smile trying to choose a pair of scissors in Wachter - he's left-handed and is unused to having to choose such things!
And Mark Cavendish made me smile by winning the opening stage of the Giro de Italia, and promptly swearing on live TV when his earpiece wouldn't do what it was supposed to do. He looked very sheepish and apologised immediately, then got on with the interview.
And this is genius! I even know how to say at least half of these in German!

Say cheese in other languages
In Greek you say Πες τυρί! (Pes tyrí!) which means Say cheese.

The ISW Red Run was this morning and there were lots of reasons to smile.

The whole school together dressed in red.
The race went off without a hitch.
It wasn't too hot or too cold - and it didn't rain!
The BBQ was ready in time.
There was plenty of cheering!
Lots of money raised for the Red Cross in Switzerland.

Several Mums ran, and Julie (PA President - I must bow!) and I managed 16 or 17 laps - the most anyone did was 20 - in an hour so we were pleased! We were pretty pleased when we finished, though we immediately switched to 'feed the kids' mode and took our place at the BBQ table! And I became The Doughnut Police, making sure that each child only had one doughnut (numbers were tight!) Chocolate, caramel, vanilla, raspberry and just-sprinklens-no-filling?

You could just tell someone Lächeln in German to get them to smile...

Thanks to my dear friend Amy, I have lots of smiley photos! She sent me a tweet linking to a post called 21 Happy Faces Hiding in Your Stuff, and today's photo is from there.

I also liked the smiling tree and the postbox!

And thinking of Amy made me think of the SCBC Cabaret and how much fun it is and how much I miss it. And then I thought that I might be missing this one but Christmas... :o)

When taking a child's photo, you say Wo ist das Vögelchen? (Where's the birdie?) in German.

A picture from my Scoop it stream today (you can look at all the posts via the 'widget' on the right hand side of this blog.
For those of you that don't speak Spanish, it says 'Smiling is free. You should do it more often.'

May Day is a holiday in Winterthur so we had a family bike ride this afternoon to see the alpacas. The uphills were not popular with Jude and I but we enjoyed swooping down a hill towards the river!

And as we watched the football, Isaac once more commented that the name of Shakira and Gerard Piqué's son, Milan Piqué Mebarak, sounds just like festival. He has a point!

Say cheese in other languages
In German, you ask people to say Käsekuchen or cheesecake.

Smiles 85:365

This graphic shared by Angelika on FB made me smile as soon as I woke this morning to see a couple of inches of snow.

And this video about Prince Ruperts drop also made me smile with amazement! It's from a Youtube channel called Smarter Every Day - and if I keep watching his videos I will be! The cat one with 'StuntCatGiGi' is great too.

Other things that made me smile today
The boys' comments on the Montenegro national anthem - 'it's very Lord of the Rings!'
A hot shower after a sub-zero run that left me struggling to breath.
Woody in Cheers.
Finding some cute German Easter songs on Youtube - been singing them in my head all day (making up most of the words!)
Opening a kitchen drawer and inexplicably finding one of my sports socks

The Goldhase has appeared once more on the roof of Coop City, although this year it;s pretty hard to see it thanks to the scaffolding for the new bus station!
It reminded me of this video about Schoko-Osterhasen I'd seen earlier today.

Other things that have made me smile today
The dancing Nan on FB.
And also Samuel L Jackson dog.
Zumba.
The last piece of lemon cake.
All the kind people who have been sympathetic about my pounding headache which has been ongoing for over a month.

Smiles 14:365

Today I have borrowed a smile from a friend - with his permission! It's a smile in spite of a broken a toe, and it made me smile too!

And a second (unrelated!) photograph. I passed here today on my run and wondered who lived here - and why that name which made me smile! So I investigated. Apparently the Odd Fellows refers to a number of friendly societies and fraternal organisations, set up originally for those without a Guild to support them in times of need. Judging by the symbol, this particular one seems to belong to the US version the Independent Order of Odd Fellows (IOOF)  So not just a silly name!

Things I heard today that made me smile

Sparklers in the park with my family. That's a big smile to start the year!

And for our first 'Smile in another language' is German - Lächeln.
