I am a smiley person, it's true. But I can be a grumpy person too sometimes and this morning I was feeling very grumpy. And cross. And fed up.

And things didn't improve much when Liverpool were beaten, Johnny Brownlee was beaten and Dan Martin fell with 100m to go in Liege-Baston-Liege.

What made me smile again?

We sang "Crown him with many crowns" at church, we sang the proper words and we sang my favourite verse about God being creator of the rolling spheres, ineffably sublime. Anyone who knows me well knows that this is very important to me. And that includes our minister Donald who commented in it as I left church.

Secondly I discovered the picture at the top in a post about iPad apps, made especially for me. Thanks Erzsi! Sorry it took me so long to see it!

Then I couldn't fail to smile at the prize Mark Cavendish received for wining the stage in the Tour of Turkey. He'll get very bunged up if he eats all of those...

And then there was this picture someone tweeted earlier.

Most of all though it was realising, prompted by some tweets, that I have two lovely sons and a wonderful husband, and that means I'm very lucky.

Bowling last night made me smile. Well, there wasn't much else I could do really, I was that bad! At one point I even shot putted the ball (I'm obviously missing my vocation!)
However, I'm afraid I didn't manage to do it quite this well...

(Should play automatically but if it doesn't click to the website!)

And, having read an article in The Guardian about Gyles Brandreth and his campaign to revive traditional games, we played "The parson's cat" this evening - although it became "Jim Parsons' cat" and lead to such responses as "Jim Parsons' cat is a neurotic cat called Nigel" and "Jim Parsons' cat is a xenophobic cat called Xenia" (X is very tricky as is K once you've used kinky!) And Jude very cleverly referenced a TBBT episode by use of the adjective 'jazzy'.

A cuddly meerkat with a hat. What more can I say? Made me smile!
PS Innocent Smoothie woolly hats are well used in our house should you have any spare ;)

Another good day at school; I think I'm going to enjoy this Spanish unit with year 4, and Year 3 PE is always amusing albeit frustratingly like herding sheep at times!

And I've exceeded my steps target for the day without going for a run - possibly that "sheep herding" did it...

Things that made me smile today.

A trip to the shops - thanks Mum for lending me your scooter.

New books to read.

Christine Ohuruogu winning gold by 4/1000 second.

England winning the Ashes.

On preparing to watch University Challenge
"Shall we watch it in HD?" I asked.
"Yes, then we can see all Paxman's wrinkles" came the reply.

Catching the start of Newsnight - Paxman has a beard!

Pulling faces at John on Skype.

(Translation - Did you know that the brightness of every day doesn't depend on the sunshine but on the smile coming from your heart)

Boys were a bit bothered by the above - how are you supposed to build with this Duplo, especially in this heat?!

It's a bit sad when your smiles are caused by packing and distributing rubbish. However, I did get great satisfaction from unpacking and replacing boxes, finding books that I thought were in England and cursing the fact that only now am I finding things that would have been useful weeks ago!
And our continuing excursions to distribute rubbish around the wastebins of Winti always raise a smile.

Sad that David Millar didn't stay out front to the end, and that Mark Cavendish didn't make it 5 wins on the Champs d'Elysees but watching was great and you have to say well done to Chris Froome for winning the Tour de France and being declared 'le vainquer' (the boys found that particularly funny for some reason...!)
Roll on 2014 and the Grand Depart in Yorkshire!

I loved this image shared by a friend on FB from this blog. I saw poppies today but in such profusion! They were popping out from between ears of wheat near Neftenbach.

This made Jude smile - he's a sucker for cuddly small animals!

Isaac and I  cycled 13 miles which made us very happy! And it was beautiful.

Isaac saw a shop called Barf today on our cycle ride.

The drama of Wimbledon also made for lots of smiles.

And I finished another good book. Got to wait until October for the next one in the series though :(
